The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who recently resettled in England with their seven-year-old son, Prince Archie, and five-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, had enrolled the children in a private school whose name has not been disclosed.
According to British media reports, concerns were raised over the distance between the family’s home in the Cotswolds and the school, as well as heavy traffic along the route.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan told Hello! magazine that the decision followed discussions with the family’s security team over the practicalities of their existing arrangements.
“The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” the spokesperson said.
The development comes as Harry continues to seek greater security protection for himself and his family while in the UK.
Harry and Meghan currently rely on private security guards, but the prince has reportedly asked the British government to provide police protection for his family.
The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), which oversees the protection of public and royal figures, reportedly met last week to discuss security arrangements for Harry and his family.
According to the BBC, Ravec is expected to conduct a detailed review of the threats facing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Harry and Meghan stepped down from their roles as working members of the British royal family in 2020 and subsequently moved to the United States. They have since been based in California, although the family has recently returned to live in the UK.
King Charles III previously made clear that Harry and Meghan are no longer considered working members of the royal family.
